my political journey
I've always been progressive and left leaning, however, during high school and my first years at university, I was somewhat apolitical, only paying attention to major political news and having superficial/mainstream opinions on them.
A few years ago, I became increasingly interested in politics and quickly started leaning toward socialist ideas. Reading The Jakarta Method - Washington's Anticommunist Crusade and the Mass Murder Program that Shaped Our World probably marks the start point of my radicalization, where I began to better understand the deep connections between capitalism, imperialism, and neo-colonialism - and their inherently genocidal, violent, exploitative, and environmentally destructive nature.
This new awareness fueled my desire to learn more. At this stage, I considered myself a "democratic socialist" (not necessarily reformist, though), still somewhat hesitant to fully embrace communism due to its stigma, despite it feeling like the inevitable conclusion of the path I was on.
However, my continued engagement with history, theory, and global events led me exactly to that inevitability.
The genocide of the Palestinian people by Israel - a violent and genocidal fascist apartheid ethnostate - served as a catalyst for my political journey, solidifying my realization that, yes, I am a communist. Seeing how imperialism turns places like Palestine into battlegrounds for enforcing and expanding capitalist domination - where mass murder and militarized repression are not just permitted but essential - reveals that the ongoing atrocities are not isolated incidents. They are a continuation of the same violent logic that crushed past revolutions and anti-colonial struggles, reflecting the inherent violence capitalism requires to maintain power and control.
Communism, as a political project, stands as the only real alternative to this relentless cycle of exploitation and destruction. Capitalism thrives on crisis, war, and oppression - its survival depends on maintaining inequality, extracting wealth from the Global South, and waging imperialist wars under the guise of democracy. No amount of regulation or electoral maneuvering will change the fact that capitalism requires the suffering of the many to sustain the power and profit of the few.
To reject capitalism is to reject a system built on genocide, environmental collapse, and endless exploitation. To embrace communism is to embrace the struggle for a world without classes, without exploitation and without oppression - the emancipation of humankind.
